Baltimore is the new Hollywood

U.S. States offer great tax advantages for the film industry. House of Cards (with main character Kevin Spacy as Frank Underwood) was filmed in Baltimore, Maryland instead of Washington D.C., where the story takes place. Of the 108 films that Hollywood produced in 2013, only 15 were produced in California. For filmmakers who do not want to go abroad (e.g. Canada, see also blog ‘DutchCheez in LA – Lessons Learned’), more or less unpopular states are regaining glamour when they appear as a background in popular shows or movies.
